Caring for Linen Through Every Little Accident – Care Tips from Camélia

Here’s a simple guide to treating common stains on linen, so your linen fabric stay fresh, clean, and long-lasting.

1. General Rules Before You Begin

  • Act quickly: The sooner you treat a stain, the better the result.
  • Don’t rub: Gently blot the area with a clean cloth to avoid pushing the stain deeper into the fibers.
  • Test first: If using any cleaning solution, test on a small hidden area first.
  • Cold or lukewarm water only: Hot water can set some stains permanently.

2. Food & Oil Stains (e.g. olive oil, butter, sauce)

  • Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch directly on the stain to absorb oil. Let sit for 15–30 minutes.
  • Brush off the powder gently.
  • Apply a small amount of mild dish soap or laundry detergent directly on the stain and let sit for 5–10 minutes.
  • Rinse with cold water and wash as usual.

3. Red Wine or Juice

  • Blot the area immediately with a dry cloth.
  • Sprinkle salt over the stain to absorb moisture.
  • After 5–10 minutes, rinse with cold water.
  • Soak in a mix of cold water and white vinegar (1:1 ratio) for 30 minutes before washing.

4. Coffee or Tea

  • Rinse the stain with cold water as soon as possible.
  • Dab gently with a solution of white vinegar + water or lemon juice + water.
  • For older stains, try soaking in baking soda + water paste for 15 minutes before washing.

5. Ink or Pen Marks

  • Dab the area with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol or milk
  • Blot gently—do not rub. Rinse thoroughly before washing.

6. Wax or Candle Drips

  • Let the wax harden fully, then gently scrape off with a dull knife.
  • Place a paper towel over and under the fabric, then press with a warm (not hot) iron to melt any remaining wax into the paper.
  • Treat any oily residue as an oil stain.

7. Makeup or Lipstick

  • Blot excess product with a dry cloth.
  • Apply a small amount of mild dish soap directly onto the stain.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse and wash gently.

After Stain Removal – Washing & Drying

  • Machine wash on gentle cycle with cold or lukewarm water
  • Use mild detergent (no bleach)
  • Air dry is best to preserve softness and prevent shrinkage
  • Iron while damp if needed
